CBAM Liability Estimator

Enter your export details below to estimate annual CBAM certificate liability. Figures are indicative — based on default embedded emission factors and current ETS carbon price. For verified reporting, actual production emissions must be used.

Methodology

Liability = Volume × Embedded Emissions × (ETS Price − Carbon Price Paid) × Phase-in Factor

Default embedded emission factors are CBAM Regulation Annex III default values (t CO₂e per tonne of goods). If you have third-party verified production emissions, enter those instead — they will typically be lower than defaults and reduce your actual liability.

Fill in your export details and click Calculate to see your estimated CBAM certificate obligation.

How CBAM Works

Four steps from export to
certificate obligation.

01
Identify covered goods
Determine whether your HS codes fall within CBAM's six regulated sectors: steel, iron, aluminium, cement, fertilisers, hydrogen, and electricity.
02
Calculate embedded emissions
Report total CO₂ and N₂O embedded in the goods — direct (Scope 1) and in some sectors indirect (Scope 2). Until you have verified data, use EU default values.
03
Deduct carbon costs paid
Any carbon price paid in the country of production (India, GCC, etc.) is deductible from CBAM liability — provided it can be evidenced to EU Customs.
04
Purchase CBAM certificates
EU declarants (your EU importer) submit CBAM declarations and surrender certificates annually. Price tracks weekly EU ETS auctions.
Regulated Sectors
Six sectors face CBAM from 2026 onwards.

India and GCC are among the top exporters in steel, aluminium, and fertilisers to the EU. Exporters in these sectors are most immediately affected.

Disclaimer. This calculator is provided for indicative purposes only. Embedded emission factors are drawn from EU CBAM Regulation (EU) 2023/956 Annex III default values and published IPCC/IEA references. The carbon price used is user-defined; actual EU ETS prices fluctuate daily. This tool does not constitute regulatory or legal advice. CBAM obligations are the responsibility of the EU declarant (your EU-based importer or customs representative), not the exporter. For verified emissions reporting, production data must be measured and certified under an accredited methodology.
